Week 9 - Fieldwork - IIUM as Sustainable Campus
This week’s emphasis turns to hands-on observation via fieldwork, particularly analyzing IIUM as a sustainable campus with students serving as change agents. The text encourages us to reflect on what defines a sustainable or eco-friendly campus and invites us to examine the current efforts in place.
The idea of a sustainable campus is complex, involving environmental, economic, and social aspects. Although there isn't a universal definition, typical signs encompass sustainable methods in infrastructure and planning, energy and climate issues, waste and water management, transportation, and incorporating sustainability into education and research.
IIUM has been acknowledged for its sustainability initiatives, becoming the first Malaysian university to earn the International Green Gown Award and the "Sustainability Institution of the Year" accolade. This implies that there are current practices to examine and gain insights from. The fieldwork prompts us to recognize how the campus presently reflects sustainability and how initiatives led by students can enhance its sustainability further

It is great to see IIUM concerns about sustainability development!
